Horrific Timing

So, The Biggest Loser. It's my favorite show. It's the one show I watch without fail. On last night's episode, the challenge for the contestants was to run a half marathon. WHAT?! That's my thing. That's what I'm going to do. And they had to go and do it now? Before me?! Not cool. Why couldn't they have waited a week? Then I could've watched it and been all smug and "I did that already."

Half marathons are something you do when you're in peak physical condition. At least that's what I thought. And let's be honest, these people, while working ridiculously hard, aren't quite there yet. So this race that I've been preparing for, and dreading and stressing over because I don't feel ready----they did it.

I have mixed feelings. Sometimes I'm motivated and think, "If they did it, then I can!" Other times I'm even more freaked out and think, "They did, and what if I can't?!" I'm freaking out here!

Sometimes you would be surprised as to what you can do— they were.

Good luck with your run. Let us know how you did.

I am a Reality TV junkie, but I don't watch this anymore. It makes me feel bad about myself.

I think you can, I think you can.

Choo choo!

(lamest comment EVER. I'm trying to get in the Guiness Book of Idiotic World Records)

I totally get it. Sometimes it doesn't help to know too much about reality.

Dude. You grew up with 11 brothers. You can do anything!! :)
Let us know how it goes, and good luck! and someday, I'm gonna run one with you.

Of course you can do it.
Duh. ;)

No, really, your body can do just about anything, ESPECIALLY when your mind is 100% on board. So decide right now that it is...and you'll be good to go. (Am I simplifying this so bad that it's annoying? - Sorry...I'm just that annoyingly optimistic girl who really DOES think that life is all sorts of rainbows and sunshine ...that's just how I roll.)

If you're half as brilliant on the road as you are on paper (a.k.a. blog) then I don't forsee any problems in your half marathon future!

(That is totally annoying that they bit your idea though...and did it bfore you got to... I'll give you that:)

You can do it B-la-B! I ran one once upon a time and it is definitely do-able, and you have been training and are just flat out awesome :)

You're going to be fine. Deep breaths, lots of focus, and remember that they have a full-time editor.

Don't let this TV stuff make you feel bad about your life - your real life! The one you are doing a great job with.

11 brothers? Really? You must be really warped, because I grew up with 'only' 5, and no sisters, and I know how warped I am!

About the race - if they can do it, you can to. Something I realized about exercise: unless you have a serious injury, as in more than sore muscles, it's 99% in your mind, and what you will yourself to do...and you CAN do it!
:~D

Just think how good you'll feel when you smash Ron's time in his face!

But seriouslly--you CAN do it. It will be hard, but it will be great and then it's on to bigger and better things! Half's are my favorite race and you're going to fall in love too!

You can totally do it.

But I'd be freaking out too. That's good - you'll need the adrenaline rush that comes with the what-if-I-fail panic attack. At least, that sort of thing helps me...

Hoggards said...

You're totally gunna be fine! PS - just keep in mind. Ron could only do 4 miles. I know that's not much comfort, but I'm pretty sure you could beat Tara's time!
Also, I was totally wondering...didn't they show Aubrey eating cookies during the show? WHO WERE THEY FOR?????

rychelle said...

You can DO it!

( that's a quote from a movie. I can't remember which one. I think rob shnider said it. Say it with an accent and that will make it funny. And YOU CAN DO IT. For reals. )

sara said...

Ok, when you do it you need to pay more attention to the time. Hello! Ron did like 4 miles in 1 1/2 hours. Also keep in mind that they won $10,000 for going fast. What are you going to get? I personally think anyone is crazy to even attempt this. I jogged for about 100 yards yesterday and walked the rest of my mile. I'm hoping to get up to 1/2 mile in 30 mins so you're still a hero in my book.

I had a friend who was a runner. When she was talking about her races she used to say things like "I didn't really start feeling it until about the 14th mile...". That is when I knew that she was crazy. Um, that probably doesn't help you much, does it?

melissabastow said...

Since everyone is pulling out the uplifting comments, I'm just going to go ahead and say: Don't even try to do it now, because if you end up failing you'll probably just eat yourself into 400 pounds and some kind of food induced coma. You should probably go eat a pan full of brownies right now just for thinking about running. Too much pressure....don't do it.

(ok, I really don't think this but I didn't want to repeat everyone else. I'm sure you'll kick trash in the race and end up meeting like 17 guys there who will want to take you on blind dates and give you food poisoning.)

Shelle-BlokThoughts said...

You can do it! Especially if you have been training for it.

I Could never do it...I am not a runner...I try, but at 3 miles I'm done...it's inevitable!

I'm impressed!

Just SO said...

The fact that you are training for this half marathon is awesome. And it's far more than I will ever do. I don't think I would even contemplate doing one.

There, There my friend..YOu can do it!! Even if you end up puking in the gutter along the way you can do it..And have a RX of LORTAB for the rest of the day....YOU CAN DO IT!!!
Marie , can't wait for the 28th I am tingly with excitement!

Dear most popular friend,

I have feared that in the midst of all of the many comments you get on EVERY post you do, you will fail to notice your favorite (well, maybe at least your tallest) friend.

Despite this worry, I have finally dared to hope that you would read a comment of mine. My favorite of your latest posts is the 'campaign for obesity'. I agree with the Hugh Jackman = Jean Valjean idea, who do we need to talk to to make that happen? And I would love to be invited to cheer you on for your race. I think having adoring fans there at the point of the race when you want to give up would be helpful. Seriously, if you want a cheerleader, you know my number!

No freaking out allowed!! You can do it, lady!

Heck, if we all had personal trainers at our beck and call 24/7 for ten solid weeks, we could accomplish anything, too!

You are stronger than you think you are! Just keep telling yourself that and pretty soon, you'll have run a WHOLE marathon!

Shelley said...

I'm no runner so I have no wisdom there, but you are training, YOU WILL DO GREAT!!
And don't let that "reality" crap get to you. It might be reality but only in Hollywood style.

By the way, as far as www.theprombomb.com goes, we still really need help finding a location - (yeah, are you kidding me?) It is tenatively scheduled for April 3rd, so if you have any connections/suggestions that would be great!

Also, we are looking for volunteers the day of, so if you are free that day, the best thing you could possibly do is commit to showing up and "chaperoning" the dance and concert until the bitter end (11:30) It would be so fun to see you!

You'll do great. I know it. The first one is always the hardest, then? Easy Peasy.

You know, if you think blisters, shin splints, and black toenails are easy, that is....

Oh girl - I believe you can and will do it!!! You can do it!!!

(now I only need to believe that I can do something like that too)

GIRL --just the mere fact that you even THOUGHT of doing a 1/2 marathon is impressive to me. YOU CAN do it. Yes you can!!!!!!!!!

You can do it! Think of all the blessings your lent observance has brought you. And I promise not to eat a single cookie to add 5 minutes to your time.

What is going on, Barbaloot? I am away from the blogosphere for a few days and look at all that I have missed? Of course you can do this. No doubts from you. Just blazing speed ahead.

I wouldn't be your friend if I didn't think you could prevail. Besides, if the fatties can do it, so can you. :)

I'm coming over from Mormon Mommy Blogs, asking for your help. I am in the running for a round trip airfare paid ticket to Connecticut, to meet a friend I became acquainted with through blogging. She is a super fun person and is holding this contest. I entered a funny story titled "Grapejuice Floaties, Now Marry Me." The person whose story receives the most votes will win a trip to meet this generous lady, whom I'm hoping to meet. The voting ends tonight-midnight. I used to be ahead but there is a story coming up from behind out of nowhere, and it's a tight race now. I would so much appreciate your help. Her blog is www.becausemomsaidso.blogspot.com and the voting is on the sidebar on the right. "Grapejuice, Floaties" Just go there and cast a vote for me, please. Thanks so much-you're awesome! ♥♥

You can totally do it! I did one and I HATE to run and I didn't even train much. It was HARD but I finished it. If you've been training, you can totally do it. You might even enjoy it. Good luck!

How did I miss this post? Talk about crappy, there's no WAY I could or would do a half marathon. It made me head straight for my bag of sugar-free candy.
