I'm Still Alive!

But barely. I'm not gonna lie to you...there wasn't one part of the race that I liked. I mean, I guess I shouldn't be surprised, cuz it's not like I particularly enjoyed myself whilst training, but I didn't anticipate how much I would literally loathe every step I took.

Here is our before picture. The look on my face is saying "What on earth have I gotten myself into?!" (I'm the short one.)

So, coming in at just a hair under two hours, I managed to complete it and even beat the goal that I didn't actually tell anyone I had cuz I didn't think I'd make it. Hooray! Doesn't mean I liked it, though. No sir. Still hated it.

And here's the after picture where I'm just busy being happy that I'm finished. And yes, I am pretty short, but Jeannie, the girl on my right, is kind of an Amazon, no?

And for real, thank you all for the encouragement on my last post!

Why aren't you standing by the man with his shirt off stroking his abs? (girl you don't want to be single anymore do you? got to work it!)
p.s. congrats on your hard work, I'm off to polish off some girl scout cookies.

I bet I'm more gargantuan than Jeannie is. Tomorrow I have a picture on my blog that will show you just how tall I am compared to two other women.

Congrats on finishing the race that you completely loathed!

YEAH, BARB!!! You made it and didn't die. That's something to celebrate. Don't rag on Amazons though. You and I never could get a good picture together....

Way to go!! Your time rocked! I always have a secret goal too...
Now you just need to pick a funner race. I never liked Moab. Now Hobblecreek..there's a different story :-)

Does jeannie play BYU soccer by chance? She looks like one of my girls camp coaches.

Just SO said...

Way to go!!! That is a great accomplishment.

Running is Satan's punishment.

Second only to crafts.

I've been waiting for you to update us. I can't believe you did it. I totally wouldn't have judged if you had faked an injury.
Way to go! Under 2 hours is amazing!

I'm so sorry you hated it! I've never run that race so I can't give you an opinion, but I promise that there are fun half's out there. But maybe you might want to have one of those before you really think about tackling the marathon.
Oh and I'd be lying if I didn't say I looked up your time on Sunday and I was SO proud of you! You totally rocked it for your first half. Just feel good about the fact that you finished--even if you never run another one--cause that's a big deal!

In the picture you look like it was easy. That is the nice thing about pictures I guess. So that 20 years from now you can look at that picture and maybe not remember how awful it was.

you rock - and yes, she's an amazon :)

(I'm only 4'11" - I think everyone's an amazon if they are 5'6" or taller though)

congrats on still being alive - I'll happily leave the running up to you!

Wow- I'm way impressed. Good for you for hanging in there!

Yeah! Congratulations. Especially on beating your goal. That's awesome. And I hear you about hating every step. That was me about half of our races in Cross Country.

I am looking at a picture of you! And what's more, it is after your big run.

Well done, Barbaloot, well done. I knew you had it in you. Now, tell me, how are you celebrating? I think doughnuts should be at the top of your list.

I think you are great! That guy with you looks a little bit like Brandon your cousin. Maybe just in the picture.

Under two hours - super impressive. Since you couldn't go out for ice cream to celebrate, I hope you bought yourself a great souvenir that every time you see/wear you will remember how totally awesome you are.

Congratulations! I'm so totally thrilled for your accomplishment -- and I can honestly say I feel fulfilled through you so I don't ever have to do something like this!

Congrats on beating your secret time limit! I'm sure they would have had to call in a stretcher for me after the first 2 minutes. Maybe after the first minute and a half, more like. Therefore I have to salute you, and your under two hour marathon running excellence.

Good for you! A great time too! You never enjoy any minute of your first, but the 2nd? a teeny bit better!

Congrats, Barb!

I just noticed that your occupation is: Law. I didn't know that. What does that mean? Are you in a gang? Do you break the law? Is that what you mean?

nevadanista said...

Hating every single step of it kind of makes it like you did a full marathon in my book. Congratulations!

Randi said...

Yay for you! Half Marathon is my favorite distance for racing. It's long enough that you fell like you've really done something!
And though I've done lots of them, I've never done one in under 2 hours!!
(but i've come reallllly close!)

ech. i'd like to say you've inspired me, but the fact that you still hated it doesn't instill that gung-ho attitude...

Chrissy said...

Barbara, you are so impressive! I remember the feeling your face shows in the first picture before I started measly, pathetic 5Ks. I can't imagine what you were feeling before it started. You are amazing!!!

Shelley said...

First of all I have to admit I agree with Jen. But having said that, just so cool you did it!!!

Shelley said...

Wow - I don't think there are very many things in this world that would make me do that. But I totally appreciate everyone that can! Maybe you can inspire me!
