I Dream in Color, But I Think in Black and White

I think that's backwards...

I realized this the other day when my dad was telling me a story about when he was a little boy and in my mind, I saw the action as if it were black and white. I'm assuming that this is because the pictures I've seen of my parents as children are in black and white. That's not because their families were trying to be artsy and cool...it's cuz color hadn't been invented yet. And I don't just mean in pictures. I mean, they literally lived in black and white.

Okay, that's not true. But it would be funny if it were. Anyway, I take the pictures I've seen of them and put them into the scenarios they describe. But I don't bring color into it.

Is that weird? Does anyone else do that? I asked my dad if he did it with regards to his parents and he just laughed at me.

I don't think you're weird for this reason. Other reasons, perhaps.

I think it's hard to picture what someone looks like in color, when all you have to go on is black and whites.

first of all - your parents are adorable in black & white!

secondly - i ALWAYS dream in color. i never understood those reports that stated you only dream in b&w.

so, again, i think we may have been separated at birth.....

I saw lots and lots of film my grandpa took of my mom when she was little and that was in color. So, I've always thought of her living in a colorful world as a kid.

It's not weird... I do the same thing. When my mom tells me stories I think of them in the grainy picture quality type imagery....hmmmm interesting

I dream in color, too. I guess that makes us both strange since I've been told that this is nigh unto impossible.

Black and white memories, though? Hmmm. Yeah, I guess I do that as well.

Interesting...

Barbaloot, I don't think color was invented back then. I think color started coming in the world gradually, like when you see old pictures and it's black and white, just the cheeks are rosy...that's when color was invented! Little by little color was added until we are at the point we are at! cool huh!

I think its dogs that dream in b&w.

I love B&W.

I wish I could switch back and forth viewing life that way.

I think I see stories and such in color, but I'm not really sure. Quick! tell me a story!

But my favorite part of that post is how much alike you and your mom look as wee little ones.

Hey, why is it Kristina P. is always the first person to comment on EVERYONE'S blog??!!! HOW DOES SHE DO IT?? Stalker...

I love black and white. There's a children's story about this very subject -- I can't remember what it is called, but I remember reading it when I was a kid and I actually thought the world was black and white until 1950-something. I also thought that Hawaii was north of Alaska.
