Pay It Forward

Okay, folks. I am one of the lucky recipients of a hand-made item by Kritta22. She's going to send me something of her choosing within the next year. And I'm excited.

The rules are, however, that I do the same thing to three lucky readers. So, I'm gonna break out my old popsicle stick house-making kit and get busy.

JK. I can't make things with popsicle sticks. But what I can do is crochet. Surprising, right? You thought all I was good for were computer drawings, didn't you?

Well, I make a mean baby blanket. I've also been known to crochet beanies (of the baby or adult variety), scarfs, booties (just babies this time) and even afghans. Ooh-and I've made baby sweaters---but they were hard so don't ask for them. I'd post pictures---but against my mother's better judgment/advice, I've never taken any. I'm awesome like that.

So, if you wanna be one of the three lucky recipients, comment on my blog. And do it a lot. Cuz the more times you comment, the bigger your chance to win. Hooray! Kristina, you know I have something special in mind for you if you win:) Rychelle, if you win, I'll be sure to throw in an awesome pillowcase while I'm at it. And in 13 days (cuz that's the first number that popped into my head) I'll have Buffy draw the winners. She gets to cuz she's close, and then you can be sure I didn't cheat and cuz her family has already received lots of things I've made so I'm disqualifying her. Sorry Buff. If you want another item you're gonna have to have another child.

Just a head's up: If you win and choose to pay it forward, that's cool. If you don't want to, you don't have to.

So, if I win, do I have to do the whole pay it forward thing? Because I don't really like to do nice things for other people.

I love this idea. I can make awesome 80's-style friendship bracelets. I could pay those forward...

Pick me pick me! But I would really want some adult sized booties ... it gets cold here ;)

So glad I'm not required to have another child in order to win.

And I too worry about paying it forward, because (as evidenced by the lame prizes I'm known for) I have nothing to offer blogland.

But you can still count this as an entry.

And I am impressed by your skills. I used to crochet - I even made half a baby blanket once...

Do we get to choose the fabric for our baby blankets? If so, then please enter me in the drawing. And I choose for my fabric: $100 bills

Hooray! I have always wanted to learn to crochet, but why, when I have a myriad of friends than can do it so beautifully? My crocheting looks like a cat has been trying to make a nest in a ball of yarn! And I hope I win, because I still have DOZENS of baby blankets and I would LOVE to pay them ALL forward!

I wish I could play!!

I want one of your creations! I guess I'll just have to settle with making you something!! :)

Barbaloot, or can call you Barbie, you're looking lovely today. That shade of yellow on the screen is STRIKING. You know that I have always adored your blog. You're such a fun gal...what? have I made you blush? You're in my top 10 sites that I visit..NO KIDDING! Anyways if you decide to pick me, I might add on to my house and call it the Barbaloot wing, or make a major donation to some sad and lonely children (probably my own) in your name. I just might shovel my neighbors driveway and yell, YOU CAN THANK BARBALOOT! Whoever you choose I'm sure will be a worthy winner. (can I say that you are just CHARMING!)

and did you know that Barbaloot ryhmes with you're-one-cool-chickoot.

OK this is my last submission. If I win you might receive an address to an eligible young bachelor AND who plays the fiddle, AND the mandolin. (he's 16, AND will soon receive his driver's license...can I get a whoop whoop?)

p.s. my birthday is at the end of this month! (no pressure)

Did I mention that paying it forward is totally my thing? I'm all about sharing the craft love here. Just thought I'd post twice. Uppin' my chances here. I could post a picture of my adorable children batting their big brown eyes and begging to win a barbaloot creation....but that might be going overboard ;)

I can't have Marcie leaving two comments without me upping her up. Love you lots Barbs! lots and lots. (sorry about you not winning my HSM christmas card giveaway. That was a total fluke)

I can verify the truthfulness of Barb's talents. I am the recipient of one of these said beenies. And I won't go into detail here, but let's just say that Barb has one too and we have most definitely been twiners in our PJs together. Oh, and I have a blanket too. She's got a lifetime of knowledge.

Barbs, looks at all these people that are totally kissing butt! You gotta milk this for all it's worth! (You should've said 13 months! :) )
I too can vouch for the awesomeness of Barbs crocheting items. I have an awesome blue and white beanie (go BYU) and my 1 year old girl loves it too! :) Thanks Barbs!

I have 3 babies that are fashionably and emotionally handicapped. Is this enough for you?

You know I'm fairly new to this blogging world, and it is apparant that you have groupies (see many comments above by same individual-no names, CAMILLE!) so I feel a little...well..I'm not sure. But is was FREEZING outside this morning while waiting to get the kids on the bus. I could really use a scarf...brrrrr....

Beeswax said...

Hmmmm. I really could use a granny square vest. Or is that knitting?

Dear Barb

You are the bestest most coolest sister-in-law ever. Actually, you're the bestest most coolest person ever. I can't wait to help you pick the winners of this.

Buffy

Camille said...

Dear Buffy,
Since you are helping with the picking and you are of close relations to Barbaloot, can I just say that I hope your picking skills are as good as your WB show.
I'm signing this one off as
BIG FAN

You're lucky that you can crochet... I was not lucky enough to learn how. I always wanted to learn to make beanies because it's really cold in Utah and it's getting cold down here in Texas. Sorry I've been a little MIA lately but I hope you had a great holiday season.

TisforTonya said...

my toes are cold right now... a little pair of blogging slippers would be just perfect...

that AND I would have an excuse to dust off my crafting closet to pay it forward... I might have to do it even if I don't win...

I think if Miss Machen up there wins you need to crochet a nose warmer... she's got a little shmutz there and I'm sure it gets cold :)

I'm going to ignore that last comment T. If we have all learned something from the Bachelor it's that when women feel threatend they have to take down the one they think is going to win. So I'm just going to suck it up and focus on my "vision" board about me holding my prize at the end of this competition. GAME ON LADIES. :)

What's with the discrimination? No booties for grown-ups? That would be sweet! :)

I'm soooo impressed that you can make such cool things! One of these days, I will develop some talents.

Phannie said...

Barbie,
that's an awesome thing that you are doing. I don't have any kids, but I'd love to win. Maybe it will encourage Marshall to start having them.

Phannie said...

Oh, it's my birthday this month too. So, machen family and I should both win. we both have had a great year

Phannie said...

it would give us a substantial reason to get together. since we've been so good at seeing each other in the past. it's been way too long. we need to play.

Phannie said...

I would love the opportunity to pay it forward to others who need it.

Buffy Dayton said...

how the heck did i comment already, that was weird!!! thanks for disqualifying me. Now I am not going to comment on your blog anymore! Just kidding, but I am going to take pictures of the things you have made for me and post them on my blog!!!

rychelle said...

i'm not sure if i should even enter, since it's clear that camille is going to win ;)

I don't care about anything but how upset I am about TBL. NINE PEOPLE? What in the Helk? I'm sorry, that was so mean of them. I have so much to say about this season and we're only two hours into it. Okay, tomorrow I'll blog but tonight I had to blurt out to someone who cares. That's you.

Camille said...

I just want you to know that I haven't forgotten about the drawing.

Erin said...

You sound so talented. Running, crocheting, computer drawings. I'm fully impressed.

The Jessee Journal said...

Ok seriously, where did all of these comments come from? Apparently I need to be more on top of my game here. Have I mentioned that I already have a new AWESOME RAD craft to pay it forward with? Yeah, this is like cutting edge craftiness.

Camille said...

Obviously Marcie is not taking this giveaway as seriously as she should. I think we all know that this competition has just entered into the next level, and if you have come to play, be prepared for some hardball. Just wanted you to know that I'm still around. I'm not going anywhere...

Kara said...

Barb, Do you remember your most amazing supervisor ever at IS?? And you know she's expecting a little girl that would love something made by you!!

Callie Thurell said...

I love your blog!!!

I always save it as the last one to read because I know it will be good!!!

Camille said...

Can you believe these lame attempts at comments. I don't think these ladies know who they're up against in this drawing.
Anyways I was walking towards my Jeep today, in this crazy wind, and thought, sure will be nice when my handmade, one of a kind, beanie by Barbie arrives. Love ya tons... forevah and evah, your friend Cam-

Tiffany said...

Barb, this is the coolest post you've ever done! I feel great about this giveaway. My sweet Emily would LOVE a darling new beanie for her first birthday in March! :)

Tiffany said...

Or maybe our new baby that will be here in August would love a cozy blanket to come home from the hospital in.....

Tiffany said...

And I might even be able to pay it forward somehow. I could make cute little ABC magnets for kiddies to play with. Done and done. now all I need to do is win!

The Jessee Journal said...

Still here :)

Camille said...

So am I Marcie, so am I!

Peter and Katie said...

Well after reading tiffany's post then I should say pick me, my baby in July will need it too!!!

Shelley said...

After ALL of these comments is there any hope. You know I would love to pay it forward, really. Does that help at all with the decision making? And I'm flexible, a nice pair of warm booties, hey that would be fantastic.

Camille said...

Even if I don't win, I'll still pay it forward, somehow.... There's a place for us,
A time and place for us.
Hold my hand and we're halfway there.
Hold my hand and I'll take you there
Somehow,
Some day,
Somewhere!

I dedicate this song to you.. because I have really bonded to you somehow, and West Side Story always makes me cry......

Tiffany said...

Barbs, glad I could make you speechless with my comment! and then Katie made me speechless with hers! Holy cow!

P.S. I love that you crochet because I am currently trying to crochet a baby blanket for my sister. The story goes something like this: Once upon a time Kim decided that she sort of knew how to crochet because she crocheted leper bandages. So she decided to embark on a project called "Baby Blanket." Thinking that because this was her first project she would just do single stitch, she started out on the journey. 3,456 days later she is still less than halfway done. At this rate, baby in question will probably have babies of his own...hmmm, then I guess Great Aunt Kim can give a baby blanket!

Kimberly said...

PPS...I love that I just found out that two of my friends are having babies by reading all of these posts. There's probably more that I just didn't see! :D

Tiffany said...

Kim, I aim to please! And Barbs, just letting you know I'm still around, even though I almost died from the flu yesterday!

Camille said...

I was laughing at your comment on Annies "Embarazada" post because I thought the same thing. The thing is I called you Barbaloot in my comment because for some reason I can't call you by your given name. Count this as another submission in your giveaway. Can't wait to hear the results! I already told my kids that if I win I would take them to McDonalds.

Camille said...

I won't kill you, silly Barbaloot. Just count this as another submission in your giveaway.
