Dear Self-

Listen---I know you have a lot of weird quirks and that one of them is that you don't like to put a lot of phone numbers in your phone. But that's weird. And you should get over it. It doesn't matter if you have a lot of phone numbers in your phone. You don't have to call these people on a daily, weekly or even monthly basis for them to have a spot in your line-up.

If you would just put people's phone number in your phone the first time they call or text, then the NEXT time they call or text you won't be all confused. And you won't look like a snob when you're all, "Who is this?" And they're like, "Uh...it's Schroeder. From your ward. We talk every week?" And then you have to say something totally lame like, "Oh yeah. My phone...it's being weird. It deleted some numbers...." Yeah. Awesome.

Stop being weird-
Me

Wow, that is extremely weird. I never do anything weird.

I have seen some weird chick wearing her Snuggie around Vegas. Who does that?

P.S. Do I get to see you next weekend with Rychelle?

I have this weird thing with putting numbers in too, because I have to memorized EVERY. SINGLE. NUMBER.

Of anyone who might ever call me. Including the entire ward roster. And I'm always secretly sure that if I put their number in my phone I'll never memorize it.

See? I'm weird. But I don't wear a snuggly.

If this letter doesn't do the trick, I think there's a support group for people with this problem.

I'm wierd that way too. I finally made myself delete all of the contact information from the job I left two years ago.

I'm the opposite and put everyone's number in my phone - I just don't always put their name. Sometimes I just give myself hints like, "Don't answer". I have a few of those in my phone.

I'm not popular enough to get people calling me with new numbers. So, no worries here.

I totally get it. It's an OCD thing and it's OK! Besides, people should have phone manners and just tell you who it is to be courteous, so its their fault, not yours;)

I can't have more than 2 messages on my answering machine or I go crazy.

So now that this is out there, people are going to start messing with ya! They will text over and over again now knowing that you won't know who it is and will drag it out as long as they can...just to drive you crazy ;)

I am the same way. I actually got made fun of by the guy selling me my new phone because I only had 12 phone #'s. Never thought I would be judged for that! :)Your not alone.

Good note to self. If I had a cell phone, I would try and remember it too.

I do recall those days when there wasn't caller ID and speed dial and you just had to remember the persons number in your head.

It's not wierd...ok maybe a little...but hey the world needs to get back to the basics:
phone rings:
Me: Hello
the other end: Hi, this is .....

Most people just start chatting away, and I actually stop them and say, "WHO ARE YOU?" "Oh, I forgot you don't have caller ID".

It is still polite to say who you are. Even if you put those numbers in, the other person SHOULD let you know. Haven't you ever used someone else's phone?

Ok, so there is my OCD habit.

haha! That was funny. And yes, that's weird, so you should not do that. :)

And here I am thinking, "I really like my new cell phone, but now i have to transfer all those contacts?!!"

Did you hear back from yourself? Have you changed your telephone habits?

This seems like a very effective means of communication. I will have to give it a whirl sometime. Thanks.

My husband has a weird pet peeve about putting clients' phone numbers in his phone...uh, isn't that why the contact list was invented? So I have to track down the numbers for him when he needs them. So I have started entering them into MY phone when they call or email. So that I have them when he calls me needing their number. His excuse is that he's Bishop and has lots of numbers in his phone to keep already. Well, OK, but your phone holds like, 500 numbers? And you can't fit in the numbers that represent money to this family!? THAT's so lame. . . ok now I'm done ranting.
I guess you hit a nerve.
Have a good day.

considering it takes me about 5 minutes every time I have to add a number to the phone it's one of those things I don't get around to very often...

it's weird - but I solve the "I don't know who this is" problem by just not answering the phone most days - as a matter of fact, I know it's here somewhere...

Very funny my dear and yes slightly weird.

I don't really know how to put the numbers into my phone. Now that is weird.

Guilty. I hate having my phone all clogged up with numbers I never (okay, rarely) call. Ugh.
My hubby? has like 345 contacts in his phone, I long to grab his phone and delete some... but, i guess he never has the problems we do!

p.s. thanks for the kind words on my blog

Barb, you are funny! That doesn't mean you aren't weird, you are, but you are way funny too.

I think you should start taking down addresses and birthdays too. Just in case.

I can ALWAYS count on you for a good laugh! Thanks!

P.S. I finally went to Cosi's. (That is where you keep telling me to go, right!?) Haha! Hope things are going well for you!

I do that too! I just hate having a crowded cell phone. What's with that? It's not like it's a pile of growing papers on my table or something. They're all IN THE PHONE, for crying out loud.

Shannon (The Daily Balance) said...

this is awesome. But what I'm more suprised by is that you actually answer! I HATE talking on the phone! I mean my mom is lucky if I pick up for her, I would NEVER pick up a call when i didn't know the number -- the HORROR!

Ha! My husband is the same way. And then it bothers him when his students text him and don't say who they are. I'm always, "um, that's because NORMAL people would already have their numbers in their phone."

I think he has his family and a couple friends and that's where he draws the line.
