I Hate Resoluations

Not mine. I don't make 'em. Not really. I hate other peoples'. Because know what? They all make resolutions about losing weight. So they go to the gym. And they take over!

I had big plans today. I was gonna do an interval/speed run on the treadmill. It was gonna be my best workout of the year so far. So I walk in the gym---and out of the gazillion treadmills they have, 40% of them are broken. No joke. Cuz the resolutioners have worn them down and they haven't been fixed yet. So, of the 60% left, all were in use. With people waiting. So I played on the stair-stepper for awhile. Treadmills still packed. Did the bike for a half an hour. Treadmills MORE packed. Did the poor-mans version of the elliptical. Seriously, that machine was so disgraceful I think I would have lost more calories picking up a remote. Once. Treadmills still packed. So then guess what I did? I left.

I can't wait till February and all those resolutioners leave me and my treadmills in peace.

Well, if it makes you feel better, I did not make any type of resolution to better myself.

Yes. I take major issue with the resolutioners. I really just feel like telling them "Look -- you're not going to be here in 2 weeks, so why don't you do yourself a favor and just get a head start on quitting?"

Patience, Barb. We need to be patient.

I can only do the poor man's version of the elliptical.

Sorry dumb people with resolutions keep getting in your way. Have fun in February!

Until then, we've got a treadmill you're welcome to use any time you want!

SO TRUE!! I'm doing the same thing at the gym. It used to be I could pull in my "own" parking space but not since January 1st. I have to park farther away. It's the same story inside. Just about every machine taken. From now on I'm just going to sit in the hot tub - if there's a place!

Well I for sure am not one of those people. I signed up for a gym membership in Oct 08 and I only went 5 times the first month and 2 times the next, and 0 times since. Yes I am so wasteful it is probably a sin.

I try to go to spinning once a week, but in January you have to get there a half hour before the class starts to even get a bike! The rest of the year....there are maybe 10 in the class, on a good day. It just boggles my mind that people can go out and spend so much money on something that they aren't going to continue past the first month. Just think of all the steak and chocolate that could buy to watch Biggest Loser! ;o)

Well it'll be my goal to find your gym and start working on their treadmills. And then when I see a bitter looking lady looking in my direction, I'll suck in my gut, tighten my bum cheeks and say..."how does my resolution look Barb? Thanks for recommending the treadmill! Hey you look like you could do a couple of more steps on that stair stepper."

YOu're absolutely right. Give them another week or two and they'll be gone! I never thought about the extra wear on the machines and breakdowns because of it! Yikes!

Thank goodness I have my own treadmill but unfortunately for me, it's *always* available, haha! Come over and use mine!

thank heaven resolutions only last a few days, maybe weeks(in very few cases)! have a great week!

That used to bug me too! BADLY BUG! Back when I was a gym girl. Just choose a chubby resolutioner, walk up with an air of authority and politely tell them they are needed at the front desk, grab their treadmill and forget you ever knew English.

I'm with you... I HATE going to the gym in January. Too many people.

Knock the freaks off the treadmills and take your spot. Runners can get nasty, right?

I promise to give up by Feb....

and I only go to the gym once a week until then

I'm so with you. The kids classes are crazy full too and it drives me nuts. They should have a seperate gym for the newbies. Make sure they're really serious and then they can go to my gym. haha

I have a treadmill you can use. It's in my storage unit.

Well, that's why I opt for the remote every time.
no, seriously, I remember when I had a membership at Golds gym, I hated January too as it was always packed and WHY don't they have enough treadmills????
but as you said, after awhile, it slows down and the "serious" workout fanatics can find out space again.
I miss having accessiblity to the gym
so, guess I'll have to stick with the remote

Ha ha!
I'm with Kristina - no resolutions for me! ESPECIALLY not about going to the gym!

But yeah, give it a month - that gym will be empty and all those people will be eating twinkies on the couch!

Sorry, I broke all those treadmills. I got really big in China, who knew dog meat was so fattening.

That's exactly the same way it is at the swimming pool. Just wait a few weeks and they'll be gone and u'll have the whole room to urself.

Kazzy said...

Just wait until Feb and they will all be open again. :)

That's so frustrating when you go to the gym all ready to have an amazing workout, and it just doesn't, well, work out. Sorry. At least we resolutioners try for a while... we have to work off all the extra poundage gained over holidays somehow, right?

If it's any consolation, I will stay far away from the gym machines. I'm hittin' the pool this year instead!

Darn those resolution makers! Darn them to heck!!

That's why I bought my own piece of exercise equipment. So that it can break down at my house instead of in a gym. Stinking technology.

Are you still planning on a triathlon? I'm still in, though I should probably learn how to swim.

I'm sorry, but still kind of laughing at all of this.
