iPod Exchange

First off, can I just say (or write) how upsetting it is to me to start a title with a letter that isn't capitalized? It's just wrong. What's with mac people creating products that start with a little i instead of a big one?

Anyway, a few months ago, I participated in my cousin, Damian's, iPod exchange. Basically, I gave him my iPod and got someone else's in return to use for a couple weeks. The purpose was to introduce me to new music, remind me of stuff I liked, etc. It kind of did that---but it also reinforced my dislike of some artists/songs. Here are the thoughts I had as I participated:

1. Willie Nelson, although he's really annoying and has lame hair, isn't half bad.
2. I still hate 'Come on Get Higher' by Matt Nathanson.
3. It doesn't matter how sad your song is, if your voice is annoying, I won't like it. I'm talking to you Pearl Jam.
4. Anyone who has George Straight on their ipod deserves a life full of happiness.
5. Second Willie Nelson song. Turns out he is as much of a tool as he looks. Good to know my initial judgments weren't incorrect.
6. I still hate 'Come on Get Higher' by Matt Nathanson. And any other song he sings. Is it just me or do they all sound exactly the same?
7. I'm never not in the mood to listen to Paula singing 'Straight Up.'
8. An entire country list and not a single Rascal Flatts song? The owner of this ipod is the smartest person alive.
9. Ashley Huff's 'Heart of Gold.' First song on the ipod that I'd never heard before and quite liked. Second was Don Williams singing 'If I Needed You' with Emmy Lou Harris.
10. Seven Abba songs in a row makes for a great work-out playlist.
11. Running out of iPod battery when working out=immediate loss of energy.
12. I like my music better than anyone else's.

I could never do an ipod exchange. The person would be so confused by my strange variety. Also they would have no idea what Noah, Noah is. Basically I would just be embarrassed.

You did WHAT????? You let someone else touch your iPod and maybe judge the music you listen to?
Have you participated in an underwear exchange too?
Seriously.
My iPod is kinda personal stuff.

The non-capitalized letter is very Apple though don't ya think? Very smart marketing technique.

So now I'm curious........what's on your iPod?

Very interesting. And dare I say it? I don't even have an iPod.

I too am wondering what is on your ipod, especially since you have kind of done 2 music related posts in a row! :-D
You are brave I won't let the pod out of my sight - Ha ha!!

I don't think I could exchange like that. I'm too picky about my music. Plus, I'm pretty sure most people would be vastly disappointed by my mostly full of opera and symphonies device! :)

What an intriguing idea! I would love to make a change with someone for a couple of weeks. But I would have to take Britney off of mine first, lest I be completely embarrassed by the sheer number of songs I have by her.

no iPod here either... I'm still trying to get over my phobia of things touching my ears. Instead I just blare the music loud and everyone around has to tolerate whatever I'm in the mood for. Funny, it's never Paula or Willie Nelson...

OK, I am now determined to stay away from Matt Nathanson, whoever he is!

I have an iPod shuffle but I dont really count that as an iPod. But I love this idea. I did a cd mix exchange with my friend a while back. like getting new music, but like you said, I like mine better. :)

Interesting! I like the idea, but would be typing the same thing here. Never a good time for Paula, is there?

I don't have an iPod to exchange with anyone because I'm so HIGHLY EVOLVED that I don't need one. (I get streaming radio through the microchip I had planted in my brain, and it's all commercial free, and sometimes the music is accompanied by hypnotic color patterns of things like mushrooms.) Also, other people's music would drive me nuts.

ummmmm no way am I letting anybody touch my iPod...

on the other hand, that is kinda a cool idea.

My iPod (any of them) would drive people insane. Too much variety.

I should totally do that. Except my kids have added half the music on my iPod and I wouldn't want people to think I actually listen to THAT. Okay, some of it's good. My daughter put the Weepies on Pandora on my iphone and I love that station every single time.

Word to the wise...Once you become a mother, NOTHING is your own! :)

p.s. Word verification = rejecti :)
Sounds like something IKEA would name their AS-IS department.

Kind of like problems--put 'em all in a pile and you'll always take back your own. (The fact that you are usually related to your problems through birth or marriage has a lot to do with that, I think . . )

Yes...I do have George Strait!!! Right along with ZZ Top, Grateful Dead, Elvis and Michael Bubble!

Oh my goodness! I think that you are my music SOUL SISTER! (and still one of the absolutely most hilarious people I have ever met. period.)

And your letter to Katy Perry? Wow. Just wow. I am sending you a great big huge hug right now. Like a hug so tight it is suffocating. You're welcome.

I too don't own an ipod...because I'm hoping for the return of the portable cassette player because I have a lot of mixed tapes I would sure like to listen to.
My music taste, like my technology, has frozen mid-90's. Give me some Salt N Peppa with Bush add a little All-4-One, stir in C & C Music Factory with a dash of Bryan Adams and you got yourself a good time.

Hey Barb,

I am glad you had a good time. You know I was thinking this thing was more of a social experiment. I may do it again, as soon as I get some social energy (it's a special type of energy).

I think I made conclusion 12 also. As much as I like traveling, even in someone else's musical shoes, it's always nice to come home.

Ya, I hear ya: I like my music better than anyone else's. I tried that with my husband, and within five minutes, I was like, "Give me my iPod back!"
