I Liked Them Before They Were Famous

I think I might be a trend setter. I have all these old movies that I've loved for years, and now the actors in them are big movie stars. Hollywood should just track the stuff I watch to know who's gonna be big in about 5 or 10 years.

Long before he was a creepy magician, Batman or a coke-addicted fighter, I love him as Jack Kelly/Francis Sullivan/Cowboy as he improved the truth to sell papers.

Then there was Patrick Dempsey. I don't really like him these days, but he starred in a little made-for-TV movie called "Lucky 7" several years ago. If you know me at all, you know I love made-for-TV movies and I loved him. Of course, he was in "Can't Buy Me Love" as well, but that didn't resurface till Grey's Anatomy started getting popular.

The rollerblade version of "Karate Kid" and "Rad" is "Airborne." Not only is it one of the best shows ever, but it stars two of my favorite people: Seth Green as "The Wiley Man" and Jack Black Augie. If you haven't seen this movie, you're missing out. Yes, I know Seth was in "Can't Buy Me Love" with Patrick.

And finally, there's Hugh. Okay fine---I didn't really know him till X-Men but I really like him and it'd be a shame to have a post about movie stars without him on it.

If you're wondering who'll be famous in about 5 years I'd put money on David Henrie and Jake T. Austin. At least, that's what I'm thinking after watching Wizards of Waverly Place for the past couple years.

*I almost forgot Aaron Eckhart! Sadly, I couldn't find a picture of the seminary movie he was in, "Godly Sorrow" but who could forget his classic line, "What about the pain?" And now he's starring opposite Christian Bale! This also means I've successfully connected all my actors!
Patrick Dempsey/Seth Green: "Can't Buy Me Love"
Seth Green/Jack Black: "Airborne"
Jack Black/Hugh Jackman: hasn't happened, but it should.
Hugh Jackman/Christian Bale: The Prestige
Christian Bale/Aaron Eckhart: The Dark Knight.

Can't Buy Me Love was a favorite of mine. Although, my mom thought it was smutty, and didn't want me to watch it. It explains so much.

I love the new look of your blog. It's very relaxing. I love this post! I was right there with you on the first two. Made for TV movies are the greatest.

You know what I hate, though, is when I see one that I love, but they never play it again and it never comes out on DVD. Someone should start a network completely devoted to playing such movies - except then I would spend WAY too much time watching TV.

Sadly I've only heard of "Newsies" Which I love! Now I feel like I'm missing out on something. I'm going to have to get the others on Netflix.

I just love "Lucky 7" and Patrick any time!
And if you like this kind of movie you have to see "Paperback Hero" with Hugh Jackman (if you didn’t already)!
It’s 1999 Australian movie and it’s adorable! :)

For some reason I never connected my cute singing newsie to Batman or the creepy magician. And I think I might need to check out some of the other movies listed. BTW, I love me some wolverine.

ATTENTION: I have seen Christian Bale in real life!! I am not kidding: I was humming Santa Fe, when I saw him in L.A. I looked at him and thought, "That's the hottest man I've ever seen." Then I did a double take: CHRISTIAN BALE. And he looked at me. Really.

First I love your new blog design! I'm hoping to find time in the next few days to do something with mine.

Secondly have you ever seen Lover boy with Dempsey? Hilarious (in that really lame sorta way) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097790/

I grew up watching Newsies and now my girls love it too. It's fun to be able to rock out to the music and have them sing along.

Bradley Cooper totally should've been on here for I want to Marry Ryan Banks.

Also, I thought the line was "And the pain?" Not "What about the pain?" However I know better than to challenge your quoting. I can't believe you couldn't find a picture from that...

Wow, I have not seen half of these movies. Where have I been.

I also love the new look.

They could be credited as Hugh JackBlack.

David Henrie had BETTER make it big. He seriously rocks.

So that's how it works! You going to the Sundance Film Festival? You may be able to predict even more soon-to-be famous people!
