Steamrolling Holidays

What day is it? February 11th, yes? Yes. So why, when I went to the grocery store today, did I see the Cadbury's mini-eggs on sale? Why? What's with candy/card/useless present companies steamrolling holidays?

We still have several important holidays to reach before Easter. Abraham Lincoln's birthday. Valentine's Day. George Washington's birthday. And the one to which I am most looking forward, Blame Someone Else Day. Seriously, I'm totally geared up for that.

Be that as it may, I'm kind of in love with Cadbury mini-eggs so yes, I purchased some. And no, I do not think that makes me part of the steamrolling problem.

All I want to know is where the helk is St Patrick's Day? This is one I love as much as Valentines Day. Where is it? The Valentines stuff is across the aisle from Easter--but no green anywhere. It is making me very sad. .

oooohhhh can't ever get enough of the eggs. I'm just waiting for the Christmas displays that are usually set up mid-may. The holiday season is right around the corner, THIS IS MY YEAR TO HAVE THE CHRISTMAS TREE UP BEFORE THE NEIGHBORS!

Can we say HYPOCRITE? :)

I just wish I lived in a country where you can buy holiday themed candy beyond wrapped chocolate hearts, bunnies or santas!!

usually I look forward to the Easter candy being debuted... but then the White Chocolate Crunch Eggs got discontinued...

I'm SO on board with that Blame Someone Else Day - the decorating should be super easy - I'll just leave the "kids" mess laying around :)

The thing I was wondering when they put the Valentine's candy out just after New Years, is who is buying their Valentines that early? Do I slide my husband some Cadbury Cream Eggs and say "Here! I bought these 6 weeks ago, so I'm sure they are still Delish!"

LOL...ummm what about the bigger Cadbury eggs? I LOVE THOSE...but mini's are probably better for ya, but I would probably just throw caution to the wind and eat all of them in one sitting...

Such is my fate in life!

Whatever, they do it because of people like you who will buy them this early on. Whatever makes them money! And I think because you bought a bag, they are going to start even earlier this next year, so nice work!

Cadbury mini-eggs are the reason we're moving back to the States.

And I will blame President Bush. Because - isn't everyone?

Sorry about the mix up Barb, I changed the name of my post and added a sort of disclaimer.
Yes our party will be held in Farr West...we like to think of our place in Utah as the little "golden" nugget of fun.

Don't forget St Patrick's Day, which is a fave of mine, and I'll be watching 'The Quiet Man' that day. I secretly always wish I could drink green beer, even though beer is disgusting.

I too am anti-holiday-pushing.

And glad to know that I can still buy Cadbury eggs. Of all sizes.

Green and chocolate have no business anywhere near one another. I say toss out the whole stinkin holiday. Bring on the chocolate rabbits and Jelly Bellies!

Hey, another comment from me! Must be your lucky day....but I saw your comment on Jen's about beginning piano. There is a new series of book that I'm loving a lot more than Alfreds. It's Piano Adventures from the Faber's. I like it a lot because it stresses learning the notes a lot better than learning intervals, which I think Alfreds pushes to much. The kids do learn about intervals it's just that I have started kids on both series and the ones that are on the Piano Adventure series are doing a lot better than my little Alfred students. It does start slower than other series but it is my favorite by far.
And I know you didn't ask for my two cents, but I offer advice like sticks of gum...and this is a wrigleys long lasting, enjoy.

I'm with you. They start celebrating holidays WAY too early.

That said, I want my Cadbury mini-eggs to be available all year long.

Us Brits must be out of control because on January 2nd I went out for milk and saw Cadbury creme eggs in abundance. I thought I'd slept for like 2 months or something instead of my standard 8 hours.

Course the problem is that by Easter I won't be able to stand the sight of such delicious things because I have seriously overdosed and it's February.

Oh and not to rub your face in it but you know how lovely mini eggs are? They're a million times nicer here where we make far more delicious chocolate than you guys.

Us Brits are really proud of the 1 thing our country has going for it!

I love those Cadbury mini-eggs. I also don't think you're part of the problem. Those have to be purchased while they're still fresh from the factory. By the time easter comes around they'll be all broken and hard.

Yeah, it kinda bugs me that if you go to the store on Valentine's day, there is no v-day candy or anything left. It's all Easter! Lame. Anyhow, I'm curious as to when the Blame Someone Else day takes place, I would like to celebrate that!

Honestly, Barbaloot, you do everyone a public service by maintaining your blog. Who knew it was "Blame Someone Else Day" today? I had no idea until you left a comment on our blog. Totally fitting that it is celebrated on Friday, February 13th too.

Oh, and the fact that you responded to my Clueless challenge, makes me adore you even more.

I have a neighbor that loves those cadbury eggs, I'm going shopping. Ok now that I said that, I agree, can we take one holiday at a time and enjoy it before moving into three more! Not that valentines is that big of deal for me, but hey before we know it, we are going to see the Christmas decorations back.

I totally agree... we need to have more "Days". How about "Chocolate Only Day" and "Scream If You Want To Day" and my personal favourite, "Shut Up and Eat It Day".

Love all the great comments! Except that I'm sitting at my computer reading them instead of exercising...when was Blame Someone Else Day again?

I'm somewhat of the opposite opinion- I think we should have all holiday merchandise available all the time. I think Walgreen's should have an Easter aisle, a Valentine's aisle, a Christmas aisle, a Halloween aisle, and then a "seasonal" aisle for lesser holidays. I'd never leave.

It's the one time a year I'm ok if certain holidays get steamrolled... Because the Cadbury creme eggs are my favorite. It's like when they start selling Egg Nog in October. I'm ok with this as well.

So, I think you should come to the meet and greet on Saturday!

Barb...I totally agree with you! Life already goes fast enough...we don't need to have it sped up by the store people!
