MOS and Vacation Anxiety

I've never made it a secret that I hate hiking. A lot. My dad and a few brothers will be hiking Timp this Saturday morning and I can't go. And I have a good excuse for it. And in reality, I don't want to hike it. Cuz I hate hiking, remember? But I still have MOS (missing out syndrome) and I'm bummed that they're gonna be on top of a mountain without me. It's probly better this way. I'd probly be half hour into the hike and be angry that I let my irrational MOS take over my hatred of hiking. Still...they'll be on top of a mountain. Without me.

And I have another edition of really important questions. Who knew it'd happen twice in a row? Not me.
1. Coconut m&ms versus almond joys? I think I vote for the m&ms...but I'm not sure.
2. Which is better: anticipating the vacation, or being on the vacation? I'm about to go out of town for a whole week and I'm all kinds of excited! I haven't taken vacation time from work since last summer and I'm ready for a break. Not a national holiday kind of break that everyone gets, but the kind of break where normal people still have to live their normal lives, but I get to sleep in, and swim, and relax, and maybe eat too much. But then, I look at the calendar at work, and see what's gonna happen as soon as I get back...and I start to feel like the vacation is coming too soon. I'm just gonna have to go back to real life after it's over. How can I go back to real life after vacationing? How can I go into vacationing with this kind of stress? More importantly, am I the only one who feels this way, or are there other irrational stressers out there?

Do the coconut M&Ms have actual coconut in them, or just the flavoring? I hate the texture of coconut, so Almond Joys are out.

Ok I have to say I love the Almond Joy!
I hiked to the top of Timp. once and I almost died! Yes I almost DIED!! That's another story though - giggle.
I TOTALLY stress right up until I leave on any vacation so you are not alone! Once I am officially on the vacation though, I let everything go - that's the trick!!
Where you going?
Hope you have fun!!

There are coconut m&ms? Why haven't I seen these before? I'll let you know after I find some and try them.

Fun vacation! Where are you off to?

1. Coconut M&M's

2. The vacation! I dread the before because it never comes soon enough!!!

I have MOS so bad. And I kick myself every time I get into something I wish I hadn't because of MOS!

the vacation is better (yes I managed to slide right past that chocolate question without a hitch didn't I?) there's too much to do before the vacation but my stress level halves as soon as I pull out of the driveway. and then doubles again as I pull back into the driveway... it's the price we pay!

MOS has gotten me into too many things I wish I had just skipped :)

That is so exciting! Right before a vacation I always think I should just stay home cuz it's too much work. Before that I am so excited!

I know, lets move to Norway where we get 3 months of vacation. I wonder if it's even harder to come back after a month?

I am a total irrational stressor. I consider it one of my strengths.

Almond Joy all the way....thinking about it is making me hungry for sugar.

Coconut M&M's and kettle corn.

I have never heard of MOS glad to know there's a name. Talking my boys through two or three good but simultaneous decisions has all but cured me of a bad case of MOS...but, still I have never hiked Timp and I love sitting on...

Pre-vacation anxiety should have an acronym because it's the worst. I used yo write an updated, In Case We Don't Make it Back, letter to each of my kids. Some of that has gone but the anxiety remains strong.

Wait, did you just say coconut m&ms? *insert watering mouth here...

Okay, I TOTALLY feel ya!!! My hubby hiked Timp TWICE in the last month and I seriously had MOS because i couldn't go either (even though I pretend to like hiking but hate every second of it). And ooo, though I do love coconut M&Ms, almond joys still have my heart!

I agree on the hiking thing. I made it a point to never hike the Y when I lived in Provo. Too trendy and too much exercise. I blamed it on the altitude. I'm from MN after all an my delicate lungs just wouldn't handle that fresh mountain air.

almond joy. i dislike the coconut m&ms.

I just pretty much hate coconut in general.

And the worst part for me is appreciating the vacation while on it. All of a sudden it's the last day and I feel like we just got there!

I have MOS also, even though I try to pretend that I don't. I hate it, funny shelle, T and you have it also. A strange coincidence in our friendship. hmmmm.

Love Almond Joy and I'm sure I'd love coconut m&ms! I thought you'd say that you'd have MOS while on vacation! I stress a little before going on vacation because I'm afraid I'll forget something or not have enough money BUT if it's a staycation, I'd LOVE IT!!
I hope you have a super vacation and just sleep in on Saturday and know you don't have to hike!

I thought I was a worry wart! I think you would win that contest.

Just go on vacation already. Oh and it would be Almond Joy for me. I am with you on the hiking. I don't get MOS about hiking ever.

Yes...and the whole week it takes to recoop from the vaycay!

Hey! Kristina nailed it for me! I hate the texture of coconut, but the flavor is fine.

My husband tells me all too often that I am an irrational stresser. He needs to read Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus. He won't though. I totally hold it against him.

I enjoy the anticipation very much but think the vacation itself is super fun, especially knowing I can look back on it with fond memories. So really the pleasures of a good vacation begin with the planning and then NEVER end.

Personally, Almond Joys are one of my favorite candy bars!! I love coconut.

I think the ANTICIPATION of the VACATION is all part of the fun!!!!! It lengthens the JOY.

we all have to come home to reality sooner or later.....try not to dwell on that depressing thought.

First of all, I hate coconut of any kind. So, I'm out of the discussion.

Secondly, your MOS syndrome is cracking me up!

And lastly, I totally get your feelings on vacation! It is the most exciting thing in the world to plan them, but in reality, sometimes it really doesn't live up to your dreams and all you think about is when you get back home.

I have major MOS even when I dont really want to have to go to things. Thats so funny! I hate hiking too, and I told my kids the other day how cool it would be to go hike Timp and see the caves, but then I thought, what the heck am I thinking. I'd have to carry all three of them because no way they're going to make it and I hate hiking. Silly me.

Have fun on vacation! Anticipation is the best. At least for me. For my hubby (who used to have bad anxiety) it's not so great. I have to find a good balance of that with my kids.

Oh you are so deep. I mean, really. I hear you, girl. I hear you. I had this same MOS dilemma not two weeks ago when my hub and son hiked Timp. But really, I had no desire to go. I don't want to go there, I just want to be there.
