I Want The Sidekick

Not that phone thing---I have no need for such frivolities. I have no clue how to use such frivolities.

No, what I mean is I want the sidekick in the movies. He's always my favorite character: sometimes it's because he's the funny one that makes the movie worth watching, and sometimes it's because he's the one supporting the main character-making him become the awesome person he can be. The proverbial backbone, if you will.

For example, Tommy in Invincible. Or, Matthew Fox's character in We Are Marshall. Plus, he's a little bit of a red-head in that movie and what you may not know about me is that I'm a sucker for red-heads.

Which brings me to my next sidekick: Lyle/Napster on Italian Job. You can tell me you don't want to hang out with a guy as hilarious as that--but I won't believe you.
"You'll never shut down the real Napster."

Another favorite sidekick is Lenny from That Thing You Do.
"Where was I? Oh...playing songs on my guitar."

And speaking of songs on guitars---Kevin Jonas. People (and by that I mean teenaged girls) say that Joe is the cute one, but they're fully wrong.

Last, I would be remiss if I failed to mention the sidekick that started it all. He's tough as anything but loyal, too. "I say, that what you say, is what I say." That's right-Spot Conlin from Newsies. In honor of him, I found the following video on youtube. I don't know what's worse: the fact that someone had time to make the video, or the fact that the random searches I do led me to this. I tried to post it, but I still don't know how....so just click on the link and enjoy!

i've always felt that george clooney would make an excellent side kick.
you know, if side kick really means love slave, cabanna boy, gourmet chef and beck-n-call boy.

I love sidekicks, too. My two favorites are Ron Weasley and Samwise Gamgee.

I think I like them so much because I'm more the sidekick type than the fearless main character. But I'm okay with that.

So funny! And I want Loralie from Gilmore Girls to be my sidekick, but somehow I think I'd end up being hers.

My 11 year old is all about Joe from the Jonas Brothers. I don't know anything about who is who. I've never been into boy bands, even when I was the target audience.

Oh man, I love Newsies too. It's been way too long, but I love that part at the end when he's leading his army and just shouts "BROOKLYN". Always got the chills then. :)

I love Newsies...like everyone else apparently! But I would have to agree with Alyson...Loralei on Gilmore Girls would be my sidekick...but who is the sidekick on Gilmore girls? Loralei or Rory?

Consider yourself tagged sister!!

Rychelle--I was pretty sure that was the standard definition of sidekick:)

Shelle--I feel like Michel (or Meeshell or whatever) should be the GG sidekick. Although that doesn't fit too well with Rychelle's definition....

And I'm glad you all love Newsies as much as I do!

Wow - after watching that youtube video I'm realizing that it's been WAY TOO LONG since I've seen Newsies. I remember Spot being so mature and hunky, possibly because I was like 11 when it came out?

I'm totally renting that movie and watching it TONIGHT.

...dreams come true...in Santa Fe....

So, I popped on over here from Rychelle's blog. She was one of my very first blog stalkers.

Anyway, I liked your blog name, so here I am.

Oh, and I do have a Sidekick. But it's the frivolous one you mentioned in your opening sentence.

I prefer my sidekick to be Tonto. I've always wanted someone who I can literally call Stupid when I say their name.

bahaha! that's too good. I think me and krista sundberg watched Newsies at least three times a week in the ninth grade. We had every word and dance move memorized. Thanks for the walk down memory lane. :)
