Learning What I Didn't Know I Knew

The other day, as I was busily blog surfing, facebooking, emailing and TV watching (yes, I am a hardcore multi-tasker) the movie Clueless came on. For nostalgic-ish reasons I left it there and after awhile I realized I was quoting nearly every line word-for-word. Seriously. I was shocked. I had no idea I remembered that movie so well.

Now, my mom has always been real big on memorization, but she preferred we focused on things like scriptures or the Gettysburg Address. However, it also assisted one brother in memorizing every (seriously, EVERY) episode of Simpsons, another from knowing all lines of any Jim Carrey movie (except The Mask, cuz really, who watched that?), and apparently me knowing a good 85% of Clueless. I would have been more impressed with myself if my mind has chosen to memorize another 90's trendy, cult classic---but I suppose I can't help it. At least in defense of memorizing that movie, I can say I liked Paul Rudd before he became all big and famous. I'm a trend starter that way.

I think my favorite line of the movie: "I feel like such a heifer. Today, I had 2 bowls of Special K, 3 pieces of turkey bacon, a handful of popcorn, 5 peanut butter m&m's, and like three pieces of licorice."

I would just like to say that I only had one bowl of Special K today.

Man, I used to be in love with Paul Rudd in that movie. Until I found out he was like 5'1". Too bad.

Yeah I think I am right there with you on the memorizing of that movie. It sure is a good one.

"that's ren and stimpy. they're way existential."

Confession: I actually liked The Mask. In fact, it's one of the few Jim Carrey movies I like. The other one would be the Truman Show, which I liked only because it was such a departure from his norm. Otherwise, it was really depressing.

The movie I find myself quoting all the time is Galaxy Quest. Super funny, super silly, and ...okay...super lame. Lately, though, my kids have been reciting lines from Kung Fu Panda, which is a definite step up!

Actually, that was me, not SuperAnne. She just left for school, and I forgot to log her off. ;-)

I call every "Amber" I meet "Ambular" and I think I'm the only one who gets it.
I love that show and watch it sporadically!

85%! You need an award or something, lady!

I can quote 97% of Thomas and Friends: Thomas Gets Bumped and 100% of Finding Nemo.

I can still do all of The Princess Bride and The Family Dog... sad but true...

and should I feel good that I've gone years (maybe forever) without eating ANY Special K... but don't ask about BBQ Pringles...

I am sorry that I love that movie, and I remember watching it in Brazil, and then going and looking in my closet thinking..."WHY?" Your closet is bascially the same as hers now, so I am a bit jealous! I will have you know that I had NO bowls of special K today!!

I am leaving two comments cause I am so excited to be in the 1-10's instead of the 20-30's you know, like I usually am.

Wow, I haven't even seen that movie the whole way through. I'm going to have to, like, rent it or something!

Confession: I've never seen Clueless. Does that make me a bad person?

Only five peanut butter M&M's? who can stop at five? I've never seen Clueless either in spite of the fact that it is based on the Jane Austen novel Emma. A sad oversite on my part.

That's excellent. I'm pretty sure I can quote Dirty Dancing from opening line to final dance.

I stopped and watched it too. Don't know if I can quote 85%, but I'm thinking maybe 50%. Is it sad that I was married when that came out, yet I can still quote it? To give myself credit, I was 19, so still young enough, I guess, to be obsessive about watching movies over and over again.

Barbaloot, I know I have said it before but you taste in TV and movie is top notch. Clueless is probably one of my most favorite movies of all time.

However, I must ascertain whether your love of my beloved flick is true. A pop quiz should do the trick. Please finish the following quotes from Cher:

1) That's Ren and Stimpy. They're way...
2) Would you look at that body language? Legs crossed towards each other. That is...
3) Dionne and her boyfriend Murray are in this dramatic relationship. I think they've seen that (blank) movie too many times.

Enjoy!

Why is that SUCH A GREAT MOVIE?! Seriously. It's just a lame-o teenage chick flick, but still - EVERYONE likes that movie. I think my husband likes it.

(And I can probably quote a bit of it myself).

Funny Stuff ... I think I know almost every word to "Better Off Dead" --- :) And I still laugh everytime I see it! There are some movies that NEVER leave you. Congrats on your memory skills - impressive.

I'm almost embarrassed to say I've never seen that movie.
Almost...

Maybe those skills helped in 5th and 6th grade when we had to learn all four verses of The Star Spangled Banner, or all of "Casey at Bat." Good times, good times!!! :D
