Homemade Oreos

Our internet is down at home so I'm breaking one of the only rules I made for my work-self and getting on my blog at work. The things I do for this blog... Of course, watching TV episodes, browsing facebook and other peoples' blogs is totally fine at work. Please don't ask me what the difference is.

Anyway, CaJoh is doing Friday Feast tomorrow and asked for some recipes. I'm sending him my fail-proof homemade oreos. Fail-proof cuz everyone likes them and if I ever have the desire to make something for a boy, these are my first pick. These things ridiculously easy to make and so good. The only thing I don't like is that the frosting aspect can be time consuming. Anyway, here's the recipe:
Cookie
2 pkgs Devils Food Cake Mix
4 eggs
2/3 C oil
1/2 C flour

Mix with dough hook
Roll into walnut sized balls (I usually do bigger-who wants a small oreo?) and flatten a bit.
Bake at 350 for 10 minutes.
Frosting
I prefer store-bought frosting, you can pick the flavor of your choice and I'm not all that partial to home-made frosting. But if you want homemade filling:
1 lb powdered sugar
8 oz cream cheese
1 cube margarine

There ya go---hope you like it. I don't know what my deal is, but lately I've been addicted to food blogs. Mostly food blogs featuring desserts. Mostly featuring desserts that are chocolate and peanut-butter centered. There's a chocolate cake I found with Reeses mixed it and used for frosting...pretty sure I'm gonna need to make that. Soon. Maybe for movie night at my brother's this Saturday.

These are some of my favorite cookies.

In fact, this is my third year hosting a cookie exchange, and one year, these were my favorite cookies. And so simple!

What sized balls should the dough be rolled into if the person for whom you're making these cookies is allergic to nuts?

OMH!! Why did you do this to me? My neighbor makes these and they are my absolute favorite thing in the world. Now I have to have them

Excuse me as I wipe up my drool. I'm so hungry now!

I love to make these also, but I like to add a few drops of peppermint to the frosting and a little green food coloring. Yummo! Good luck with the peanut butter cake thingy.

I'm gonna have to try this. Hmm, I wonder if I have everything. . .

(and for your food blog addiction, you have been to Conversations with a Cupcake, yes? Because if you want to drool that is the place to go. . .)

Dang, I'm not going to be losing my 10lbs this month.

Homemade frosting is great if you melt chocolate or white or peanut butter chips then mix the powdered sugar and cream cheese into it.

I will definitely have to try these. Thanks for sharing.

Sounds so good. Going to have to try it.

These sound yummy. I have a similar recipe where you roll them in powdered sugar. So easy it's embarrassing...and everybody loves them!

When I lived in the states I would wait for cake mixes to go on sale (you know how they always do?) and I would buy three thousand of them and use them all to make these cookies. I LOVE THEM. Now I live in a place that does not have cake mixes (or at least not American ones) and I've tried many substitute recipes, but I've found that a homemade oreo just isn't a homemade oreo without the cake mix (which makes it not all that homemade, really, doesn't it?)

Thanks so much for making me hungry and homesick. :)

Oh my! This is the FIRST, very FIRST thing I am making when my kitchen is done! Yum!

Oh, and always forward anything with peanut butter to me. Always. :)

Uh? Store frosting tastes like preservatives and homemade frosting tastes like BUTTER. Cause you need to use BUTTER. Otherwise I'm totally on board, and I will try these soon. They look fab.

These sound delish -- will have to add it to my growing "to cook" list. I am also addicted to food blogs (and mom blogs but that is another long story -lol ). Check out www.foodblogs.com and www.tastykitchen.com -- yummy sites for foodie blog addicts :)

I love those oreo cookies, but I've never made them. Perhaps in your honor I will try. (And of course stash a whole bunch where Nick can't find them, so I can have more to myself!)

Really? You had to post these just as I'm starting a diet.

(Really? I started a diet in October?)

They sound amazing.

Looks like a good receipe ...I will give to my daughter. I don't MAKE stuff ---I just eat stuff others make for ME. So if you want to mail me some, let me know and I'll send my address. BUT it takes almost 2 weeks for things to get here ---might not be too good by then. WHICH would be great for me as I need to stay away from things that expand my hips. (which seems to be most food in general these days)

I made a chocolate cake with Reeses once and it would make you slap people, it was so good. I love food blogs!

So Barbs, have you ever tried just putting Betty Crocker Cream Cheese frosting on them?? I cheat and that's what I do and it makes it super yummy and faster! (I even think it's better than the homemade frosting!)

Chocolate and peanut butter centered? Did I ever give you my recipe for no bake chocolate and peanut butter centered dessert?
