Penance

I said once before, I hate blind dates. Double hate.

And yet on Thursday evening, I found myself preparing for a blind date. And Thursday night/Friday morning I found myself in the midst of food sickness. Serves me right. Clearly I just need to learn to say no. But really. Is there any polite way to tell your co-worker that you don't wanna go out with his best friend? Yeah, I didn't think so.

From now on, I will follow the advice of Nancy Regan and Just Say No!

I don't know what your issue is... think about it.. blind date, love is blind. 'Nuf said. Don't go around town with your "blind"ers on.

my point is...I have someone in my neighborhood I would like you to meet.

Me and my husband were set up. So, you never know! My brother set us up though, so maybe you need to get a bro involved.

You didn't say how whether the guy liked YOU.

I guess you'll never know for sure. That's what you get when you go out with someone who's blind.

Oops, I need grammar school...

You didn't say "whether" he liked you... etc...

I have a few blind date horror memories... mostly repressed though so don't be looking for them anytime soon!

Sorry about the food poisoning, are we blaming the guy or the restaurant?

Dang, did you eat somewhere? Or was it just the date?

UUUGGHH blind dates are the worst...especially since you got food sickness...

So what did the guy look like?

I can't remember a single blind date I ever went on. (I've wiped them from my conscious memory, thanks to years of really great therapy.) Unless you count the son of my parents' friends who called me up out of the blue...we actually kind of had fun, but it was still AWKWARD.

Just a clarification for you smart alecks out there: it was the food, not the boy, that poisoned me. But, he picked the restaurant so if we wanna get technical...

Never went on a blind date, but have felt pretty bad after eating from a buffet for lunch with my co-workers. Perhaps it wasn't the food after all.

There are very few things in this life worse than food poisening! I hope you're over it by now! That totally stinks!

Sooo sorry about the sick crap. Really. But here is the positive note for blind dates, some of them actually do turn out....sorrrry, just trying to find the bright spot.
(It didn't ever work for me either)

At least you didn't have to fake being sick to get out of it. I fake sick all the time and I love it when I'm actually sick and don't have to lie about it.

It is amazing how you and I see everything from the exact same perspective, Barbaloot. Nancy Regan did teach us everything we need to know in life.

i always say that blind dates are just proof that your family/friends don't really like you. because if they did, they never would have set you up with THAT guy....

Feel free to use this one -
"I don't want to waste your time or mine!" - Is that too mean? :) Maybe No is nicer ....

I made this same vow - but then my insatiable curiosity would strike again. I couldn't help thinking "but what if this is THE ONE and I don't go?????"

And then I'd go. And just for the record, I did not meet my hubby on a blind date.

If you don't want to go on a blind date, just dont answer the question. Instead, you should change the subject to blogging and then share your blog address with that person. Hopefully he/she will read the posts about hating blind dates:) Problem solved with your blog!

Dude, why didn't you tell me anything about this? I am hurt!

Alyson | New England Living said...

I just came back to see if I really was the only one. Apparently I am!!

Anyway, when my brother set us up, the guy (i.e., my future husband) did not know. It was all casual and we hung out with my brother. However, we hit it off and soon my brother left us alone. That is the ideal blind date to go on - when the guy doesn't even know. Seriously, do it this way from now on. No worries about how to reject him or how to get out as quick as possible. If you don't like him like that, no one's the wiser.

Blind dates=Major stress.

Whoever invented them should be shot.

I'm sorry about the food poisoning...but you didn't say anything about the guy?

Deb said...

Okay, but other than the gut-wrenching illness, how did it go?

melissabastow said...

Blind dates are bad. They never end well. And if someone ever tells you that they had one end well then you can just make a big "pfffffffft" noise in their face (covering them with spittle, of course.) Because blind dates NEVER end well.

All I hear about are blind-date horror stories. Does anyone have a success story? From a blind date, I mean...

Ugh. Blind dates. Does ANYONE like blind dates? But way to be a good sport. Angels in heaven have jotted this down and I'm sure you can cash it in for something in the afterlife. Eternal salvation would be great, but it's probably more like a t-shirt that says "I survived a blind date and all I got was this lousy t-shirt." Sorry.

On a happier note- I would LOVE to do something with your blog. Not that it isn't fabulous as-is, of course. But email me (flyinryen at gmail dot com) and give me some specifics. I'd love to give you a blog-over. :)

Ick, blind dates. Never again! I want all the scoop on a guy right up front, and maybe a f-t-f intro with a friend who can moderate. Dating is just too hard as it is.
